White Light Generator
Did I already mention, I was excited for Crippled Black Phoenix' new album? Yes, I did!
Soooo, today I finally bought the album (in a non-online-store, can't remember the last time I did that). And guess what, it is great!
Already listened to the album 3 times in a row now. Not only are the individual tracks really great, but the album works really well as a simgle piece of art. That includes the great artwork and packaging. The album is divided in two sections: "Black Side" and "White Side".
The packaging and booklet imitate a file (the paper one, not the digital one): Faux-typewriter font and blacked out words in the text (one song even has a blacked-out title). Another cool detail: The pages for the songs in the booklet all have a picture that changes from page to page / song to song: The "Black Side" songs show a tall building in the style of early skyscrapers that is slowly destroyed from picture to picture, the "White Side" then continues with a tree that is slowly growing from the remains of the building. The tree features bright, green leaves, in contrast to the dark and colourless building from the "Black Side". Truly beautiful, that is why I buy music on physical mediums!
If I had to pick a favorite song, it would be "No! (Part 1 and 2)". A really complex, deeply-layered song (the guys from CBP really have a shitton of talent!) with a very catchy melody. Every time you listen to this song, you'll discover something new. But really, the album should be listened to as a whole!
All in all a really great album, tons of fun listening to and an album that really shnies as a total work of art.
